Construction Estimator

MAC Construction & Development located in Portland, OR has an immediate opening for a highly skilled and motivated Construction Estimator.  This role will support multiple projects in multiple States (including Washington and Oregon) with a primary focus in the general commercial construction market sector.  Prospective candidates shall have a thorough working knowledge of construction as it relates to all disciplines and phases of construction in both new construction and rehabilitation construction.

Position Responsibilities

  • Perform pricing, and bidding of commercial construction projects.
  • Perform full material quantity take-offs.
  • Solicit pricing from Subcontractors and Suppliers in multiple states for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Maintain MAC Construction & Development Subcontractor and Supplier relationships in multiple states.
  • Market and develop MAC Construction & Development new Subcontractor and Supplier relationships in multiple states.
  • Compile and Qualify Subcontractor and Supplier scopes of work and proposals.
  • Execute accurate, detailed, and complete conceptual, preliminary and contract estimates.
  • Assist Executive team with bid strategy and estimate presentation to Clients.
  • Identify constructability issues throughout the estimating process.
  • Identify value-engineering alternatives for proposal to Clients.
  • Track and document historical estimating data for future estimating use.

Candidate Requirements

  • Must possess 4-5+ years of direct construction estimating experience with a preferred specific focus in the wood framed casual dining market sector.
  • Proven track record in soliciting & securing Subcontractors/Vendor proposals throughout the Country.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information in documented RFI’s.
  • Proven track record of highly effective negotiating skills with Subcontractors, Suppliers and Clients.
  • Proven track record of effectively working with Clients, Subcontractors, Suppliers, Architects, Engineers, City Officials.
  • Proficiency in plan reading.
  • Proficiency in conceptual estimating.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, with a proven track record to manage time effectively and hitting deadlines consistently.
  • Highly organized, efficient, detail oriented and accurate.
  • Proficiency in multi-tasking with the ability to bid several projects at one time.
  • Candidate shall possess the ability to anticipate and account for potential quality, safety, productivity and schedule implications in the production of an estimate.
  • Candidate will need to have the ability to travel if required to jobs sites as needed (Minimal Travel Anticipated for this Position).

Position Software Requirements

Candidates should be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word MS Excel, MS Power Point, MS Project, MS Outlook, MS Teams), Adobe Professional, Zoom, Blue Beam Revu, SmartBid (Preferred), Sage 300 (Preferred) and ProCore (Preferred).

Preferred Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering preferred but not required.
  • Previous construction field experience.
  • Ideal candidates are life-long learners looking to grow their knowledge and skills.
